Here At FNG

At FNG, we’re proud that our people are at the heart of everything we do. As we continue to grow, we’re always excited to welcome talented individuals who share our passion for delivering exceptional service and building long-lasting partnerships.

We’re delighted to introduce the newest member of our team, Connor Toulson who has joined FNG as a Key Account Executive. Bringing with him a wealth of experience across the IT channel, cloud services, and account management, he’s already making a fantastic impression with his customer-first approach and collaborative mindset.

We caught up with him to learn more about his journey into IT, what excites him most about joining FNG, and the lessons he’s picked up throughout his career.

Tell us about your role at FNG

I recently joined FNG as a Key Account Executive, and my role is focused on supporting a select group of our fantastic clients while taking full accountability for the success of each partnership.

No two days are ever the same, which is one of the things I enjoy most. A typical day involves building strong relationships across different departments within our partners’ businesses, listening carefully to their requirements, and developing tailored solutions that genuinely add value.

I’m always looking for ways to think outside the box and challenge the status quo so we can continue exceeding customer expectations. Internally, I work closely with our teams to ensure we consistently deliver the high standards FNG is known for, including maintaining our impressive 98% SLA achievement.

Ultimately, my role is about becoming a trusted extension of our partners’ businesses and helping them achieve their goals through collaboration and outstanding service.

How did you get into the IT industry?

My first role in the IT industry was as an Account Manager at Ergo Computing, a computing reseller based in Nottingham.

Interestingly, I originally interviewed for the position before COVID, but after social distancing measures were introduced, I was approached again for the role. The experience and transferable skills I’d gained earlier in my career at Carphone Warehouse helped me secure the opportunity.

At Ergo, I managed education customers, primarily primary and secondary schools, providing hardware solutions to meet their technology requirements. It was a fantastic introduction to the industry and gave me a solid foundation in account management.

From there, I joined Agilitas IT Solutions, where I held several roles and was introduced to the wider IT Channel. During my time there, I worked with globally recognised systems integrators, supporting services including third-party maintenance, engineering projects, refurbished hardware, warehousing, and logistics. Our team acted as a trusted extension of our partners’ services, and that experience really shaped my understanding of what excellent partnership looks like.

Unfortunately, Agilitas entered administration last year, but despite the challenges, it was an experience that reinforced the importance of teamwork and resilience.

Most recently, I spent time at Central Technology within their Cloud and Data team. There, I developed my understanding of cloud backup, disaster recovery, and the importance of every business having a robust cyber security and data recovery strategy. While I enjoyed learning about a different area of technology, I realised how much I missed working within the IT Channel.

After leaving Central Technology, I took three months away from work following the birth of my second child, giving me invaluable time to strengthen those early family bonds before beginning my next chapter at FNG.

Looking back, I’m incredibly proud of the journey so far. Every role has taught me something different, and each experience has helped prepare me for where I am today. Joining FNG feels like a natural next step, with a brilliant team, an adaptable portfolio of services, and strong partners who are all on an exciting journey of growth together.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

One of the best things about working at FNG is that every day is genuinely different.

As a channel-only business, every partner brings unique challenges and opportunities, meaning there isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach. Every request requires a tailored solution, and that’s what keeps the role interesting.

Because I work with a dedicated group of key partners, I’m able to spend more time understanding their businesses, their goals, and what success looks like for them. Building those long-term relationships is incredibly rewarding and allows me to become more than just an account manager – I can become a trusted partner who understands their business inside and out.

What does great client service mean to you?

For me, exceptional client service starts with a simple mindset shift.

Rather than focusing on selling to customers, I believe in supporting partners. When you approach relationships from a collaborative perspective instead of a transactional one, everything changes.

Great service is also proactive rather than reactive.

A good example is what happens after a contract has been signed. Instead of waiting until renewal time, I believe in maintaining regular touchpoints, reviewing performance data monthly or quarterly, identifying potential risks early, and putting solutions in place before issues affect service delivery.

That proactive approach helps create stronger partnerships, improves the customer experience, and contributes to consistently achieving high SLA performance.

What’s the biggest lesson your career has taught you?

Without doubt, the biggest lesson came when Agilitas entered administration.

Suddenly, an entire workforce found themselves facing uncertainty after years of secure employment. It was a difficult time for everyone, but what stood out most was how people came together.

Colleagues supported one another by sharing job opportunities, offering advice, checking in regularly, and helping each other navigate an incredibly challenging period.

It reminded me that resilience often comes from the people around us. No matter how difficult the circumstances, we achieve more when we work together, support one another, and focus on finding solutions as a team.

What advice would you give someone starting their career in IT?

Spend your first 90 days learning everything you possibly can about the business.

The IT industry is incredibly diverse and often quite complex, so taking the time to understand how different departments operate and how services are delivered will make a huge difference.

If you’re joining in a sales role, don’t just focus on sales training. Spend time shadowing colleagues across the business, ask questions, observe different approaches, and develop your own style over time.

Most importantly, stay curious.

There are no bad questions, and the more inquisitive you are early on, the stronger your foundations will be for a successful career.

Welcome to the team!

We’re thrilled to have Connor on board and can’t wait to see the impact he’ll make as part of the FNG family.

His passion for building lasting relationships, commitment to outstanding service, and wealth of experience across the IT channel make him a fantastic addition to the team.

Welcome to FNG Connor! – we’re excited for the journey ahead.
