Project Overview

A leading minerals sector company based in the Netherlands partnered with FNG to upgrade its aging network infrastructure. The project focused on the decommissioning of legacy HP Aruba switches and the installation of Cisco Meraki switches at a single site. To ensure no disruption to ongoing business activities, all physical work was completed over two consecutive weekends. A team of five field engineers was deployed to manage the entire process, which included the safe dismantling and packaging of legacy equipment, installation and patching of new devices, and enabling remote access to allow the client’s internal team to complete configuration remotely.

Project Objectives

The key objective was to modernise the client’s network backbone by replacing outdated switching hardware with new, cloud-managed Cisco Meraki switches. The upgrade needed to be implemented with minimal downtime, and all physical work was scheduled during non- business hours to maintain uninterrupted operations. The project was designed to deliver a seamless transition to new hardware, ensuring improved performance and manageability while strictly adhering to the client’s operational and logistical guidelines.

Customer Challenges

The customer required a highly coordinated execution to ensure minimal disruption. A core
requirement was to complete the entire hardware replacement outside of regular working
hours, strictly during weekends. Additionally, the secure and proper handling of existing HP
Aruba switches was critical, including their safe removal, packaging, and documentation.
The installation of the new switches had to be seamless, with full power-up and patching,
while also ensuring that all newly deployed devices were immediately accessible for remote
configuration by the client’s technical team.
